Am
I Pregnant? Symptoms That Could Prove Positive
Most
women start to show some pregnancy
symptoms very shortly after the implantation of a
fertilized egg (ovum)
into lining of the womb (uterus) has occurred.
In
fact when a woman has become pregnant,
symptoms actually start
to develop within a few days although in the majority of cases
they are so minor that they are hardly noticeable and are certainly not
sufficient to be taken as confirmation of pregnancy.
But if you are pregnant, the sooner it is 'officially'
confirmed
the better so that you can start taking the right steps to ensure that
you'll be doing the very best you can for your Baby.

you become pregnant) by completing the form on the right.
For women who have previously been pregnant,
symptoms can be more
easily recognized as being early indications of pregnancy but
there are many different signs which are associated
with pregnancy and it is by no means certain that the same
early symptoms
will appear in the next pregnancy just because they were there in the
first one. |
|
It
even occasionally happens
that a
woman can be into
the third month of her pregnancy
without even realizing she is pregnant especially if she
is used to
having irregular periods.
On
the other hand, if a woman is
very keen to find out if she's pregnant, symptoms which could be
entirely
'innocent' can easily be wrongly interpreted as being definite proof of
pregnancy!
Such false pregnancy
symptoms' can disappear as rapidly as they appeared
leading
to either disappointment or relief depending on circumstances.
Wishful
thinking and anxiety can
play all sorts of tricks with the imagination
so whether or not you've already been pregnant,
symptoms
need to be treated with caution.
The
only real way to be certain is to rely on modern tests AND
confirmation
by your Doctor before starting to celebrate (or maybe thinking
about
termination).
But if pregnancy is a possibility, it is only natural to look
out for signs and even today many women will not go to the lengths of
taking a test if they have not first experienced some fairly major
pregnant
symptoms.
If a woman has already
been pregnant, symptoms
can often be confused with those of premenstrual tension and
other
conditions but self-diagnosis
can often be correct.
But even if you are certain
that you're pregnant, it's still to best to be absolutely sure
and obviously to start getting the support and advice of medical
professionals as soon as possible .
Sometimes,
for women who have been trying for a long while to get pregnant,
symptoms which are far from sure signs of pregnancy are
seized upon
to raise morale after months or maybe years of disappointment.
Staying positive is a very important part of success and it's best not
to get too excited at the slightest sign but I know from personal
experience how demoralizing it can be to find that you've 'failed' yet
again. |

Anyway,
having said all of the above, let's have a look at some of the
well-known pregnant symptoms:
The
most common symptoms appearing soon
after implantation (when the fertilized egg is actually
implanted into the lining of the womb) are associated with the breasts.
For example, the areas around the nipples (the 'areolas') may
start to darken within a week of implantation and
their
little ‘bumps’ may start to become more obvious soon after.
The
breasts and nipples can also start to feel tender very soon after
implantation but if you're lucky, your breasts may just become
more sensitive to the touch which is a much more
pleasant experience - at least it was in my case!
As
your breasts can show the earliest genuine
pregnant symptoms it could
be a good idea to familiarize yourself with their normal
condition
before starting to try for a baby.
It may seem a bit odd to start studying
your own
body closely but your partner might just possibly be
willing
to
assist!
Within a few weeks of becoming pregnant,
symptoms
start to appear quite regularly and if you take all of
them together they can give a reasonably
accurate indication that you are in the early stages of
pregnancy.
But, even so, the accumulation
of a number of pregnant symptoms is still no substitute for proper
medical
confirmation - remember that the
emotions associated with pregnancy
are very powerful.
There
are many changes to a woman’s body that result from the
fertilization and subsequent implantation of an ovum caused by the
large
hormonal changes
that also start to happen but in my considered opinion the
only positive pregnant
symptoms, apart from the early changes to the breasts, which are of any
real value are missed
periods.
Two
consecutive
missed periods are generally considered to be quite
conclusive
but even so this could just be the
result some
other condition such as stress or hormonal imbalance although
obviously it is wise to see your Doctor.
Always remember that nothing's certain until it's been confirmed by
qualified medical professionals!!
Other Pregnancy Symptoms
For
the sake of completeness, I'll list a few
other symptoms which could possibly indicate
that you are
pregnant:
Nausea/Morning
Sickness
Fatigue/Tiredness
Frequent Need to Urinate
Headaches
Bloating
Mild
Vaginal Discharge
Light
Bleeding or 'Spotting'
Stomach
Cramps
Mood
Swings
Higher
Body Temperature
Constipation
Your
imagination is more powerful than most people think, so
please
don't start looking for these possible pregnant symptoms!
Also, a quick glance at the list will tell you that most of them can so
easily be due to any number of causes other than pregnancy.
For any of them to be of any significance at all, they must be
DIFFERENT from what you you were like in your
'unpregnant' condition!
The list gives 11 secondary potential
pregnancy symptoms but in my opinion even if you have as many
as 6
or 7 from the above list this does not definitely indicate
that
you're
pregnant especially if the breast changes and missed
periods haven't happened.
Sorry
to 'labour' the point but please bear in mind your health care
providers know best!
And don't
go thinking that a craving for chocolate is
absolutely 100% confirmation - if it was, it would mean that I've been
continuously pregnant for the last 20 years without giving birth even
once.
Wishing
you the Best of Luck, whether you're hoping for a positive or
negative result!
Helen
